Main Street Beautification Project Completed
Franklin, WV
July 28, 2019
Pendleton County Community Foundation awarded a “Main Street Beautification” grant to the Pendleton County Convention & Visitors Bureau earlier this year for downtown Franklin.
The Main Street project added new “Welcome to Franklin” signs designed by local artist, Michelle Clark Sites, removed 45 parking meters, added 13 solar lampposts on Main Street with robust hanging baskets designed and grown by local business, Cunningham Place Greenhouse, 4 trashcans along the street, and the newest addition is a bright piano placed outside the Star Hotel and Restaurant. This piano is for anyone to play and was given in memory Paul and Shirley Thompson. The welcome signage highlights the “Mountains of Opportunity” slogan which was chosen by county residents in 2018.
The old “Welcome to Franklin” signs which were donated by local business, CMI, are being used as a new Franklin Town Park & Pool sign and as welcome signs along Dickinson Mountain and Smith Creek Road.
“The Main Street Beautification project is something everyone can be proud of and the feedback we’ve received has been so positive. I’ve had other counties approach me to see how we made it happen. We appreciate the support from the Foundation, the Town Council, and everyone who encouraged the project. It really has been a community effort from the initial conversation of beautifying downtown to watching it come to life. It’s been amazing,” said Brown.
A ribbon cutting to celebrate the project was held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 with CVB Director, Laura Brown; CVB Chair, Kristin Dingess; Pendleton County Community Foundation Chair, Bill Loving; Pendleton County Commissioner, Carole Hartman; and Pendleton County Community Foundation Treasurer, Ryan Boggs.
